🎈🎂”There are two great days in a person’s life: the day they are born, and the day they discover WHY.” ~William Barclay.
🍃 Hello beautiful souls! In today’s class, we celebrated my birthday! 🥳🎂It was actually the day before, (finally got my kayak!) so I thought it’d be fun to keep the party going into my yoga class! I created a playlist just for it too! A trip through MY eras! We started off with Dancing Queen, since ABBA was big the year I was born, then moved through the decades: 80s, 90s, 2000s, choosing my favorites along the way! Sing along the next time you’re in your car, turn it wayyyy up, windows down, let the wind mess up that hair, BE FREE!! Discover & connect to your WHY, your passion, your purpose! Create that path to make it all a beautiful reality!

🍃We opened in child’s pose, allowed the body to become heavy, grounding into the earth, feeling her support. Our cheek met the mat, or the forehead rested on a block or the earth. We filled the belly & lungs with the fabulous 3-part breath, releasing the past frustrations & future to do lists. We thread the needle, walked the hands back into a soft backbend, then floated forward into our puppy, melting the heart. We walked back onto our heels for sidebends, another backbend and forward fold, to float into a half lotus. We healed with self reiki, let ruminating thoughts of the past wash away, worrisome thoughts of the future melt toward the earth to be refined into something better. The mind is a time traveler, but the body is always present.
🍃We moved in yummy ways, with a fun warm up flow of Tiger crunches + and bind, floating knee to chest crunches & push ups, 1-legged child’s pose to supported side plank into a flowy seated side bend! Super delish!! We opened our heart & lungs, lengthened, twisted, extended, flowed linking breath + movement, opened our hips, releasing tension & tightness to release negative energy & nourish the body. We moved through some of my favorite asanas: warrior 1, 2, side angle, sky archer, triangle, wide leg forward fold, Pilar, Dancer, Dragon, Twisted Lunge, Half Moon, Standing Splits, Wild Thing, Fallen Star, and Dancing Camel! Definitely had lots of *nods* to my 20+ years of dancer life! We encircled the healing space on our mats! Somatic experiencing gave us tools to regulate our nervous system, to serve as a reset button! Self massage, jaw release, brushing the throat, & ear pulls, and sternum massage swept away anything harmful still attached to the body! We stimulated the vagus nerve, tapped into our parasympathetic nervous system, sent messages to the brain that the body is not under threat, it can now relax, it is no longer in a continuous active state (fight mode). These practices are so useful off the mat as we encounter stress or triggers in our daily lives! We did a full body cleanse! Yoga helps us shed what we no longer need, so we may see our most purest selves! To slow down means to heal! That is why savasana is the most important pose, the goal. To find peace.
🍃That’s what I LOVE about yoga, it renews the soul! What we do on the mat, transforms our life off the mat! It is beautiful!!
