🍃 Hello beautiful souls! HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎊 Today was the first of my Monday classes of 2024! Last year, we travelled through all 5 of the Yamas, and then I took a pause for the holidays, to center the teachings around those holidays. So, when the new year began, I knew I wanted to start again with the 5 Niyamas! Today, we began with “Saucha!” Perfect timing as we wash away all that 2023 was for us: challenging, painful, exhausting, rewarding, exciting, insightful! We bring those lessons learned with us, and begin to cleanse this new path as we walk into 2024! Saucha: clearing, cleanse, remove, release, wash away, purity.
🍃We opened with an *apana* mudra to connect with this cleansing of the mind, letting go of any negativity still hanging around from 2023. Deep 3-part breathing helped us envision a clear path forward, cleanse impurities in the mind: self-doubt, judgement, disconnection, go go go mentality. We slowed down the heart rate, the blood pressure, self-healed with reiki, became present to calm the mind, stop the racing or ruminating of the past, to see our purest selves: Saucha.
🍃We moved in yummy ways, opened our heart & lungs, lengthened, twisted, extended, flowed linking breath + movement, opened our hips, lubricated our joints, releasing tension & tightness, dove deep into the fascia to nourish the body. Our Ganesha elephant trunk sways cleared all the obstacles out of our way, so we could see our path forward, our path for 2024! Somatic experiencing gave us tools to regulate our own nervous system, to serve as a reset button! Butterfly thumps, humming, and we literally swept away bits of 2023 still attached to the body! We stimulated the vagus nerve, sent messages from the body to the brain that the body is not under threat, it can now relax, it is no longer in a continuous active state (fight mode). These practices are so useful off the mat as we encounter stress or triggers in our daily lives! We did a full body cleanse! Yoga helps us shed what we no longer need, so we may see our most purest selves!
🍃That’s what I LOVE about yoga, it nourishes the body, heals the mind, & renews the soul! What we do on the mat, transforms our life off the mat! It is beautiful!!
